Monography on 'Evolving Fuzzy Systems' released (Springer Berlin)

Evolving fuzzy systems (EFS) are a powerful tool to cope with changing system dynamics, new operating conditions, varying human behaviors or environmental influences, as they are able to automatically adapt parameters and expand their structure, allowing on-line real-time modeling from data streams. In a wider sense, as they are able to permanently learn in dynamic enviroments and extending their 'memory' on-the-fly, they can be seen as a contribution to computational resp. artificial intelligence. Several on-line application scenarios provide a round picture and affirms the usage and applicability of this type of models in today's industrial systems. Another aspect handled in this book is the interpretability of the models, concerning the question whether experts, applicants, human beings are actually able to understand the learned/evolved models. This could be a basis for an extended communication between human and machines in the future.
